The LORD will be awesome to them, for He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth; People shall worship Him, Each one from his place, indeed all the shores of the nations. Zephaniah 2:10-12
Yoga, Reincarnation, Sikhism, Karma, New Age; all of these practices and beliefs stem from the ancient religion of Hinduism. Hinduism covers a diverse number of beliefs, with a few unifying themes. Its influence on Canadian society is ever increasing and it is important that we, as God’s people, understand the dangers of this polytheistic religion.
Plan on attending and learn, through the power of the Holy Spirit, how to be an effective witness for Christ to our Hindu neighbours. Rev. Kuldip Gangar will be our guest speaker for the seventh installment of Defending the Truth. Rev. Gangar will bring extensive knowledge and insight into the world of Hinduism.
Session 7 Speaker: Rev. Kuldip Gangar
Rev. Gangar’s family moved from Punjab, India to England in 1960. His family belonged to the Sikh religion. It was in England that Rev. Gangar was first exposed to the Gospel, this exposure lead to faith while in his teens. Though things were difficult at home due to his conversion, the Lord preserved him by His grace. Not only did the Lord protect Rev. Gangar, but also saved his entire family. In time his parents and siblings, except one sister, were also brought to faith. Furthermore, many of his relatives were also saved. Rev. Gangar attended Westminster Theological Seminary and entered into the ministry in the Christian Reformed Church and later in the Free Reformed Church. In February 2004 Rev Gangar, along with his brother, who is also in the ministry, made their first trip back to Punjab since leaving, as children, some 43 years ago. They held three evangelistic meetings, and conducted worship services and Bible studies. The evangelistic meetings were packed with about 300 people attending each meeting. The people were open and responsive.
Rev. Gangar conducts weekly, half hour Bible studies that are broadcasted on the radio in Seattle, Washington. The program is aired every Lord’s Day and is entitled “The Old Paths,” based on Jeremiah 6:16. His involvement in radio ministry also includes half-hour messages in the Punjabi language, which is broadcasted through a local station in the Vancouver area where many East Indians and Sikhs live.
If you are unfamiliar with Defending the Truth, please read the following: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. 1 Peter 3:15. Guided by the words of First Peter, Zion United Reformed Church of Sheffield has organized a teaching series entitled Defending the Truth. Through this series, we seek to equip Christians in the defence of the truth of our faith. This series will cover a number of religious systems or worldviews that we may encounter in our daily lives. We will learn to understand the people who live within these systems and how to share the gospel with them. We will also learn how to defend against some of the objections they may have to the truth of God’s word. Each session will feature a speaker, and will be accompanied by a growing resource manual for you to continuously refer to as you share the good news.Lord willing, we will hold ten sessions in all, dealing with the following topics:
