Ministry to the Muslims

The congregation of Zion U.R.C. of Sheffield, Ontario, believes that the Lord has opened up an exciting opportunity for the advancement of His Kingdom spreading the gospel to the Muslim community in the Toronto metropolitan area.

The consistory of Zion invites applications for the position of a full time missionary to take on this challenge.

Qualifications for the Applicant:

• Must be an ordained Pastor, or eligible for the ministry in a Reformed church that upholds the Three Forms of Unity and/or Westminster Standards.
• Must be familiar with the Islamic faith and practices and enthusiastic to learn more.
• Must be self motivated and have a passion to bring the Gospel to Muslims.

The Christian / Muslim Forums

We are very excited by the challenging mission work the Lord has called us to do.

Our congregation has been lead to the city of Scarborough, where an interesting cultural exchange is taking place. Members from Zion, as well as Christians from neighbouring reformed churches have been cultivating relationships with a group of Pakistani Muslims, now residing in and around Toronto.

There has been a tremendous population growth in this community, but very little evangelistic outreach. We currently hold regular ‘Forums’, which consists of Christian and Muslim speakers, a question period and one on one fellowship over a traditional Pakistani meal.

We deeply rely on the power of the Holy Spirit for this work. We pray for God’s Spirit to stir the hearts of our Muslim friends and bring them to conviction of sin and salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord. We are humbled and privileged to be used as God’s instruments in sharing His Gospel to a lost world and pray that He would open the door for full-time mission work among the Muslims of Toronto.

The Migrant Mission Project

Mision de Vida (Life Mission) is a ministry reaching out to migrant workers in the Hamilton area stretching west towards Cambridge and St. George. Zion URC and other local churches have teamed up to bring the Good News of our Lord and Saviour to Mexican migrant workers who work at local nurseries, greenhouses and farms during the summer. In 2008 we hope to host four soccer BBQ’s and eight Spanish worship services. The typical worship service begins with a meal, followed by singing and a short sermon. This will be our second year in this ministry and we are excited about this door of ministry that the Lord has opened for us.

Kid’s Club

Zion URC is very excited to be starting up a new outreach ministry program geared specifically to children who are unfamiliar with the Bible and its message of salvation. We look forward to welcoming children from Sheffield and surrounding areas that do not regularly attend church and do not know about Jesus Christ. Children attending can look forward to a time of learning, activity, singing, and socializing. It is our intention to focus on unchurched children so they may be confronted with the saving gospel of Christ; to that end, children who are part of a church should only consider attending if they bring another child along who does not know about Christ.

We thank God for this opportunity and pray that He will give us wisdom and, especially, a love for any children who may come through the doors of our church to attend this program.

• Outreach to Wentworth Lodge and Fairview Mennonite Home
